Best Friends, Champagne Toasts & Fishing Poles | Family Experience Session in Annapolis

What to Expect From a Family Experience Session in Annapolis

If you’re booking a family experience session in Annapolis and expecting a handful of smiling-at-the-camera portraits, I want to gently tell you — you’re going to get so much more than that.

My sessions are intentionally designed to feel less like a photoshoot and more like time spent together. The images families love most are rarely the perfectly posed ones. They’re the ones where something real is happening.

This post features images from a recent favorite. I left one Sunday open last October just in case. A message came through on a Friday — a last-minute request to document a best friends storytelling session. I was free. I said yes.

A Session That Celebrated Everything

This one was truly unique. We documented family portraits, a 10-year wedding anniversary, decades of friendship between two moms, and the beautiful bond their husbands and children had formed. There was a champagne toast, wedding glam, and kisses on the beach. Then everyone switched into sweats and just hung out together. Shells. Splashing. Fishing poles. It was perfect — playful, heartfelt, and so very uniquely them.

Why I Encourage Longer Family Experience Sessions in Annapolis

The first few minutes of any session are just a warm-up. Kids are figuring me out. Parents are still in “are they cooperating?” mode. Everyone is adjusting.

When we allow 45–60 minutes or more, something shifts. Kids forget about the camera. Parents ease out of performance mode and into real connection. That’s when the magic shows up. That’s when the story begins.

Shorter sessions have their place — I offer minis for exactly that reason. They deliver a beautiful portrait and your holiday card. But longer sessions capture a relationship. Your family. Your people. All the beautiful reasons you decided to become one. This applies to couples and branding clients too. Your relationship to the work that lights you up inside? That deserves to be documented and preserved.

This Is About Relationship, Not Rapid-Fire Posing

I don’t rush families through a checklist of poses. Instead, I learn your family’s dynamic, pay attention to energy and personality, respond to what unfolds naturally, and guide gently only when needed. That space creates images that feel layered, emotional, and distinctly yours.

What You’ll Walk Away With

You’ll have beautiful portraits. But you’ll also have movement, interaction, quiet moments, laughter, and images that tell a fuller story of this season of life. Longer sessions aren’t about quantity — they’re about depth.

Who Family Experience Sessions Are For

These sessions work best for families who value storytelling over perfection, want images that feel honest and lived-in, and trust the process enough to let moments unfold. The wild kids always find their way to me — and I fully embrace their energy. A family experience session in Annapolis is for the families who show up as they are — and leave with images that actually move them.

If that resonates, you’re exactly who I created these sessions for. Let’s chat and see if we’re a fit. Additionally, take a look at another storytelling session to see what’s possible.
