If graduation is in May, senior photos shouldn’t be an April afterthought. Sharing a little known secret: many families reach out to schedule their session (to reserve a date) as early as their student’s Junior year, or during the summer before Senior year, and early fall of Senior year.
Most photographers in our region who focus on outdoor imagery tend to have a slowdown in January & February, and this is actually a sweet spot for contacting your photographer and booking senior photo sessions in Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia before their schedule fills up. Another factor to consider is that many of the landmarks and popular county, state, and national parks in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and DC require a permit (or some kind of permission & planning), so we need to secure locations ahead of time. Most families don’t realize it until it’s almost too late.
Why Booking Senior Photos Early Matters
Booking your senior session ahead of time gives you:
- Better availability and flexibility with dates
- Time to thoughtfully plan outfits and locations, secure permits, work around school activities (or incorporate them!)
- Provides the option to photograph in the fall semester, early spring, or early summer
- Finished images ready for graduation announcements, party invites, and yearbooks ahead of crunch time
Waiting until March or April often means limited dates are available, rushed planning, and settling for whatever’s left on the calendar, and turnaround time is something to consider!
