When I open a photo session request, it usually goes one of two ways.
It’s either: “I saw this location in one of your posts — can we have our session there?”
Or: “Where should we take our photos?”
And while the greater Annapolis area has no shortage of beautiful locations, the real answer is simple:
The best location is the one that fits your family and your vision.
Because the goal isn’t a trendy backdrop — it’s a setting that supports your unique connection, movement, and moments that actually feel like you.
Tree Farms (Fall + Early Winter)
Tree farms are cozy, nostalgic, and perfect for families who want space to move without feeling too staged. They work beautifully for fall and early winter sessions and are especially great for kids who need room to wander, explore, and warm up slowly.
This is also why I typically announce Tree Farm Mini Sessions early (usually share my Fall Mini dates July or August). These spots book up fast, and many locations prefer to host sessions before they open to the public for tree sales, meaning we would be there before Thanksgiving! Keep an eye out for my announcement for a fall mini date in either mid-October, 2026 or early November, 2026! Planning ahead makes the entire experience calmer — for families and the farms.

Waterfront, Public Parks, & Open Spaces
There are several waterfront locations in Anne Arundel County and Queen Anne’s County that are a dream for families who want an organic backdrop for their sessions. Think:
- Messy Boots & Windy hair
- Barefoot kids
- Space to run, skip rocks, or explore
These locations shine during golden hour and are ideal for families who want photos that feel candid, organic, and lived-in. Featured below: A shoreline in Edgewater, 2 waterfront parks on the Eastern Shore, and 2 locations by Kinder Farm Park in Millersville.

If you want a city vibe, we can make the trip to downtown Annapolis, Baltimore, or DC!
Rental Studio Sessions
Rental studios are a great option when you want consistency, clean lines, and zero weather stress (especially in the winter or during unpredictable seasons).
These sessions are ideal for families who:
- Prefer a more controlled environment
- Want a minimalist or editorial look
- Have little ones who benefit from warmth and predictability
- Are scheduling during colder months or tight timelines
Studios allow us to focus fully on connection without worrying about wind, crowds, or lighting changes. They’re also a great option for families who love a polished look and still want images that feel natural and emotive.
Quick note: rental studios do carry an additional fee, which I’ll always walk you through ahead of time so there are no surprises.

At-Home Sessions & Private Land
Some of the most meaningful sessions happen right at home — or on a neighbor’s farm, or private property that allows photography sessions.
At-home and private land sessions are perfect if you want:
- Comfort and familiarity
- A slower pace
- Photos that feel deeply personal
These sessions often capture the quiet, everyday moments that are so easy to forget — and end up being the ones you treasure most. Just keep in mind that some locations may require permits or carry an additional fee.

How I Help You Choose
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
I help guide families toward locations in the Annapolis area based on:
- Your kids’ ages and energy
- The season and available light
- The overall vibe you’re drawn to
- How you want the session to feel, not just look
The location sets the tone — but the styling and connection always shines through!
If you’re unsure where your session should take place, that’s part of the experience. We’ll choose a spot that supports your story, not competes with it.
