Everything You Need to Know Before Booking Your Session | Family Photographer Annapolis Maryland

Before you fill out that lead form — or before you talk yourself out of it — I want to answer every question swirling around in your head. As a family photographer in Annapolis Maryland, I hear the same worries over and over. The ones you’re embarrassed to ask. The ones that have kept you from booking for longer than you’d like to admit.

And every single time, I want to reach through the screen and say: I’ve got you. So let’s just get it all out on the table right now.

What If My Kids Won’t Cooperate?

Let them. The chaos is kind of the whole point.

I’ve photographed enough kids to know that the tears, a little bit of sand throwing, the beeline straight to Chesapeake Bay, the hiding from the camera — those are the images families come back to years later and laugh about. The chaos is yours. I just know how to find the beauty in it. I want them to feel safe to be themselves, and that’s how we get real smiles!

What If I Hate How I Look in Photos?

Here’s what I know after years of doing this: the version of you that shows up on session day — tired, imperfect, fully in it — is the version your kids will treasure most. They love you as you are. You are their home base, tummy and all. Stop waiting to feel ready. That version of you is already enough.

Something happens in almost every session — a quiet moment, a look, a laugh that catches you off guard — and suddenly you feel it all at once. I watch for those moments on purpose. They’re always the ones that matter most in the final gallery, and that’s what a family photographer in Annapolis Maryland is really here for.

What If I Don’t Know What to Wear?

Styling is one of those things that sounds simple until you’re standing in your closet the night before your session in a full panic. So let me take that completely off your plate.

Every client gets a detailed styling guide before we shoot. It covers what works for your location, your season, and how to coordinate your family without everyone looking too matchy or too chaotic. That alone eliminates most of the stress.

But if you want to go deeper — a full moodboard, a curated lookbook, someone who really sees you and builds a look around your personality and your session — that’s where my girl Styled By WI can be your guide. She’s a professional stylist I trust completely, and working with her is genuinely one of the best investments my clients make. She will style your family head to toe if you decide to work with her.

For full sessions I also keep a small client closet you’re welcome to borrow from, plus curated shoppable lists on Amazon, ShopMy, and LTK so you can find pieces you love without spiraling through a Google search at midnight. I linked all of those resources here for you!

Zero guessing. Zero panic. Just showing up feeling like yourself.

What If I’m Awkward in Front of the Camera?

Same, girl! So are most of my clients — and they all leave obsessed with their photos.

Making you comfortable is genuinely my job. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to know how to pose. I’ll guide you through every movement, every position change, every prompt. My sessions aren’t about standing still and smiling — they’re about moving, laughing, connecting, and forgetting the camera is there at all. By the end, most people tell me they had no idea it would feel that easy.

What Do I Actually Need to Bring?

Less than you think. Feed the kids before we start — hungry littles and cameras are not a good combination — and bring a clean snack just in case. Beyond that, show up as you are. I handle the location, the light, the prompts, and the pace. Your only job is to arrive and be present. That’s genuinely it.

How Long Will the Session Take?

It depends on the session type, but most run between 45 minutes and an hour-ish — enough time to capture real magic without anyone melting down. Mini sessions are shorter by design. Either way, we always move at your family’s pace. There’s no rush, ever.

What If It Rains or Something Comes Up?

Life happens — especially with kids and Maryland weather. That’s exactly why I build flexibility into my calendar. I don’t post a public booking link because I genuinely believe in working around real life. Sports schedules, sick days, last-minute chaos — we’re all moms over here and I get it. If something comes up, we’ll figure it out together. No rigid policies, no stressful rebooking fees — with one exception: mini sessions held at a venue with a site cost may carry a rebooking fee to cover that expense. It’s handled in the contract!

What Happens After the Session?

Within two to three weeks, you’ll receive your fully edited online gallery. Turnaround can shift slightly during busy seasons, but I’ll always keep you in the loop. Most clients also choose to add fine art prints, albums, or wall art through my professional lab — and I love helping with that part. Your photos deserve to live somewhere beyond your camera roll.

What About Printing — Do I Have to Figure That Out Myself?

Absolutely not. One of my favorite parts of the process is helping clients figure out what to do with their images beyond the digital gallery. Through my professional lab partners I offer fine art prints, wall art, albums, and heirloom products that are a serious step above anything you’d order at a drugstore or big box retailer. The color accuracy, the paper quality, the weight of a real print — it makes a difference you can feel. If you want guidance on what would look beautiful in your home, that’s a conversation I genuinely love having. Your photos deserve to live somewhere you can actually see them.

One Last Thing

If you’ve been sitting on this decision, second-guessing yourself, waiting for the right moment — this is me telling you the right moment is now. You will not regret booking. You might regret waiting.
