Golden Light + Giggles: A Family + Maternity Session at a Scenic Waterfront Park

Sometimes magic shows up in unexpected places—like in the middle of a bug-filled early spring evening at a waterfront park on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

This session was a blend of family and maternity, documenting a family of four that is about to become five. The two girls I photographed were absolute troopers — and so were the parents! The kind of kids who swat away mosquitoes without swatting away their smiles. Who let dad dance & dip them while the sun makes it descent low behind them & willing to keep moving to have the session we planned. Girls who lean into the moment, just like their parents did, and let the joy unfold naturally.

That’s the sweet spot—where playfulness meets light and those in-between moments shine brightest as the sky changes and the sun moves.

We wandered along sandy paths, splashed near the shoreline, and chased the kind of laughter that only comes when no one is being asked to “say cheese.” Most of the images I’m sharing below are exactly that: candid moments that speak for themselves. The wind in their hair, the hug from behind, the little whispers between sisters.

This is the kind of session I live for—one where we’re not just documenting what your family looks like at this moment in time, but how it feels to be you, together.

And can we just take a moment for this stunning MAMA – look at her… 🤩

Whether you’re expecting a new baby or just want to hit pause on the whirlwind of everyday life, there’s something powerful about making space for this kind of experience. No pressure, no perfect poses—just light, connection, and the freedom to be yourselves.

Thinking about your own session?

If you’re looking for an Eastern Shore of Maryland and/or Greater Annapolis Area family photographer who values authenticity, connection, and gorgeous golden-hour light, I’d love to create something beautiful with your crew.

Whether it’s a maternity session at the beach, a sunset shoot with your little ones, or a laid-back family activity in your backyard or at a park that feels like a hidden gem, I’m here for the real stuff: movement, laughter, emotion, and a final gallery that actually makes you feel something.
